Lesson 14 - Diorama
Diorama
Now you have researched and designed for a given context you are ready to use your plan (storyboard) to create the actual diorama in Blender.
Decide what you will create first:
- the interior environment?
- the exterior environment?
- both types of environments?
- 3D object models to go into your environment?
Blender tools & techniques recp for making environments...
When creating an environment for a project, after you have conceptualised everything, where should you start?
There are many ways to create an environment, and there's no wrong way to do it either.
However, there are ways to make building one easier.
Take a look at this environment… If you would recreate this, where would you start?
Usually, when creating something like this, you should start with the big models first.
Before you even start with the small models, you want to know how the whole thing will look like first, the size and lengths.
Now take a look at this… It’s easier to plan out the entire thing than if we would make a bunch of small models and hope that the walls will fit.
Although this is a personal preference, and if you feel like the other way is better, you can do that as well.
These example models are quite complex, your environment doesn’t need to look this detailed, but you’re welcome to try!
Not every environment needs to start or look the same way, and since this is a diorama, here are some ideas for the base…
…a simple square…
Different starting points
Flat ground with a Spot Light!
While this one doesn’t have that much, with unique models, it can look awesome!
It is similar to the previous one but with some walls and a platform for it to stand on with Point Light.
This one has a bit more going on and could generate some fun ideas!
You could even remove the tall wall at the back to make a castle of some sort.
Similar to the first one with Area Light!
This one looks like what trophies or any other achievements could stand on!
Statue ground.
Looks the simplest but we can make a statue with this base for some great looking model!
These are just ideas that could get some of you going if you have no idea what to create. Go crazy and see what you can make!
