Lesson 15: Black boxes in Systems
Black box in a System: when you are not sure of how a technological system transforms the inputs into outputs then this is known as a blackbox. Can you think of any black box systems that you use everyday?
Look at the image of the washing machine.
Look at the image of the petrol pump.
Look at the image of the coffee machine.
Use the handout provided or create your own outline using some scrap paper. Draw the components that enable the user to dry their hair... Discuss the black box system.
Continue working on your project
Continue working on your change calculator project. At this stage you should have completed or are completing your algorithm, ready to be turned into a program.
Still working on your algorithm? Think about the following:
-
What Inputs will be needed by the user?
-
What process is required by the program?
-
What order should these processes happen in?
-
What information should the program produce? How should it be displayed/outputted?
Converting an algorithm
Now that you have an algorithm, break down the overall project into bite sized pieces. Only focus on one piece at a time.
Start with the Input:
Greet user when the program starts
Request input of transaction cost
Store input received
...
Tips:
Remember to use all of the skills and code you have learned so far. Feel free to re-use any code from any exercise to help you.
